CPA - Interim Firm Manager $40.86/hr+ ($100K+)

Location: Naperville, IL

Job Type: Contract / Full-Time (Interim - Transaction Period)

Temp-to-Hire - possible conversion upon completion of contract

Overview:

We are seeking a highly experienced and credentialed Certified Public Accountant (CPA) to oversee operations and manage all accounting functions for a CPA firm in Naperville, IL during a transitional/transaction period. The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of experience in public accounting, with demonstrated expertise in corporate tax returns, financial statement preparation, and personal income tax filings.

Key Responsibilities:

• Manage daily operations of the CPA firm during the transition period.

• Prepare and review corporation tax returns (Form 1120, 1120S) and personal tax returns (Form 1040).

• Oversee the preparation and finalization of corporate financial statements (GAAP-compliant).

• Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, providing advisory and tax planning support.

• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations.

• Manage and supervise junior staff or contractors if applicable.

• Maintain accurate and organized client records and workpapers.

• Coordinate with legal, financial, or M&A teams involved in the firm's transaction process, as needed.

Qualifications:

• Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license required.

• Minimum of 5 years of experience in public accounting.

• Strong background in corporate tax, financial statement preparation, and individual tax returns.

• Experience managing or operating within a CPA firm environment.

• Excellent communication and client relationship skills.

• Ability to work independently and handle confidential firm matters with discretion.

Preferred:

• Experience with firm transitions, M&A, or practice sales is a strong plus.

• Proficiency in tax and accounting software (e.g., Lacerte, UltraTax, QuickBooks, CaseWare).

Compensation:

Competitive and commensurate with experience. This is a temporary/interim role, with the potential for longer-term engagement depending on fit and outcomes.

Pay Details: $48.00 to $49.00 per hour
