Manager Logistics and Transportation

Location: Position can be located in Pittsburgh, PA; Latrobe, PA; or Cleveland, OH 

 

Job Summary


The Manager of Logistics and Transportation is responsible for driving performance and reliability within the transportation network, develop and execute transportation strategies, and execute key project initiatives within logistics and distribution, that will lead to best-in class logistics operations. In this role, you will collaborate with functional and operational stakeholders to develop targeted improvement plans to increase service to our customers while reducing transportation and operational costs. This role will also focus on building high-impact partnerships with 3PL partners and carriers to optimize network performance and service. You will be a key leader and change agent within supply chain and logistics, transforming strategic objectives into programs/projects, and ultimately, results. The Manager of Logistics and Transportation is expected to be a hands-on leader: developing logistics analyses, reports and models, and running projects personally in addition to utilizing team resources to ensure productive and high-quality outcomes. 

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Lead in a way that improves performance toward Enterprise Key Results. Lead and demonstrate the highest commitment to safety and integrity.
  • Partner with business segments and functional stakeholders, and lead Logistics and Transportation activities within the company, championing standardization of best practices across the various operating models globally.
  • Develop, implement, and leverage repeatable Logistics and Transportation methodologies and frameworks to rapidly deploy initiatives.
  • Craft a comprehensive program to improve performance and orchestration of all logistics (e.g., freight, parcel, cross-dock, warehousing, operations)
  • Define, staff, and lead logistics performance improvement projects working directly with executive leadership, supply chain leadership team, partners, and stakeholders to define scope and drive deployment.
  • Serve as subject matter authority in logistics performance standards
  • Investigate evolving industry and functional best practices, defining and implementing new capabilities and maturing processes through a strong project management approach.
  • Lead and manage various Logistics projects within the distribution keywork to drive key initiatives.
  • Manage Regional Transportation Management resources: ensure proactive review of transportation performance & spend, and enable continuous review / optimization of transportation flows along with cost reduction and lead-time improvement opportunities.
  • Keep transportation service providers accountable, identify service performance issues, lead transportation management resources in tracking & tracing delayed shipments and bringing collaborative resolution to freight issues.
  • Govern the performance and reliability metrics in logistics across the world, supports the root cause analysis for gaps and guides the improvement
  • Develop new models, reports, and analytics to be adopted globally to improve and automate logistics planning, execution, and reporting.
  • Partner with Strategic Sourcing on 3PL partner selection, performance managements, and maintaining strong network relationships.
  • Partner with Information Technology and leverage Supply Chain Analytics resources to drive data transparency and harmonization where necessary for reporting.
  • Lead regular network meetings to understand and provide support to close gaps and share best practices
  • Work with Information Technology and Strategic Sourcing (and other relevant stakeholders) to identify and standardize around a core set of information system solutions and data analytics platforms.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Supply Chain Management, Industrial Engineering, or related field is required. Master of Business Administration (MBA) or other advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 - 8 years in progressive supply roles in industrial and/or B2B supply chains.
  • Experience leading and running logistics transformation projects and roadmaps covering operating model, process, and systems aspects. Project management certification is preferred.
  • Strong Change Management capability with demonstrated ability to lead large-scale change.
  • Consistent record for developing, training, and mentoring employee teams in a continuous improvement environment.
  • Knowledge of business systems and information technology managing complex supply chain activities.
  • Hands-on experience with supply chain / logistics systems and analytics
  • Experience using ERP systems, particularly usage of standard supply chain modules and reporting. SAP experience strongly preferred.
  • Strong leader with the ability to influence and manage across a large geographically diverse organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to standardize and improve supply chain processes for tangible financial impact.
  • Good understanding of financial metrics and processes impacted by supply chain performance.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and demonstrated ability to lead through influence at all levels.
  • Strong communicator, capable of clearly articulating strategy through tactics with all organizational levels.
