NAME OF EMPLOYER: Akzo Nobel Coatings Inc.

POSITION TITLE: Pilot Plant Chemist POSITION LOCATION: 300 Sprowl Road, Huron, OH 44839 JOB DUTIES: Use pilot reactors to run resin batches, including loading and sampling the reactors, operating reactor control system, performing in-process testing of batches, and quality control testing of finished goods. Own scale-up process for all new resin introductions and resin transfers to Huron resin plant, including resin synthesis on both lab and pilot scale and supervision of initial production batches. Conduct routine maintenance and cleaning of all pilot plant equipment and order supplies and consumables. Order raw materials and maintain inventory and batching system for pilot plant. Determine proper Hazard Materials Information System (HMIS) codes and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements for all materials used in pilot plant. Assist in proper determination of waste profiles, and track disposal of water from pilot plant to meet regulatory requirements. Ensure proper organization, storage, and disposal of retained samples. Monitor pilot plant visitors and contractors in accordance with site rules. Present results and write technical reports. Can work remotely up to 40% of the time. Less than 10% domestic travel required REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Polymer Science or related field of study and 5 years of progressive experience as a Chemist, Laboratory Analyst or related occupation. Applicants must have demonstrated experience with: 1) 5 years of experience in polymer synthesis, including polyester, acrylic, epoxy and latex synthesis. 2) 3 years of experience working with chemical manufacturing; specifically in resin manufacturing. 3) 3 years of experience working with polymer synthesis on a pilot scale (5 - 200 gallon). 4) 3 years of experience with inventory management, including the development and leading of an inventory system for a pilot plant. 5) 3 years of experience with scale up of polymer manufacturing processes. 6) 3 years of experience with routine maintenance and cleaning of plant equipment as well as ordering plant supplies and consumables. 7) 1 year of experience with formulation or batching software. 8) Adherence to Health, Safety, Environment, and Security (HSE&S) policies and requirements. 9) Preparing communications including scientific report writing and presentations. 10) Project management.
