A 134-bed safety net hospital serving Chicago’s most vulnerable populations is seeking a Pre-Registration Manager to lead a critical transformation in patient access operations. This is a high-impact opportunity for a mission-driven leader ready to stabilize and rebuild a key team from the ground up.
As the hospital modernizes operations to enhance efficiency and patient care, this role will be pivotal in unifying inpatient and outpatient registration under one cohesive strategy—bringing structure, accountability, and measurable improvement to frontline processes.
The Pre-Registration Manager will oversee daily operations across inpatient and outpatient registration teams, driving efficiency through centralized workflows and improved staff performance. The role includes direct leadership of approximately 7 team members (growing to 11), while also supporting emergency department registration functions in a hub-and-spoke model.
This is an ideal role for a hands-on, process-oriented leader who thrives in hospital settings and has experience managing unionized teams.
Oversee and unify inpatient and outpatient registration workflows
Train, motivate, and manage team members in a union environment
Establish, track, and optimize KPIs for accuracy, timeliness, and patient experience
Collaborate with centralized scheduling and ED registration teams to align workflows
Partner with night shift leadership to ensure seamless 24/7 operations
Coordinate cross-functionally with HR, medical records, and department directors
Ensure data accuracy and reduce duplicate medical records for clean billing
Serve as a visible, patient-facing leader who upholds customer service excellence
Experience managing hospital-based registration or pre-registration teams
Proven supervisory or management experience, ideally with union staff
Strong grasp of performance metrics and quality improvement methods
Background in process improvement and workflow optimization
Experience with centralized scheduling (highly preferred)
Familiarity with MEDITECH (especially 6.x or Expanse) is a strong plus
Collaborative, mission-driven leadership style with a commitment to community health
