Spacecraft Structures Engineer Location Littleton, CO : Job ID: 656034BR Date posted: Nov. 02, 2025 Program: Dragonfly Description: Our Deep Space Exploration (DSE) team is seeking a highly motivated Structural Engineer to support aeroshell design, fabrication, test, and delivery for the Dragonfly program. The Dragonfly program is a NASA New Frontiers program. The spacecraft consists of a cruise stage, aeroshell entry system, and rotorcraft, with Lockheed Martin being responsible for the Cruise Stage and aeroshell. The position is based in Littleton, Colorado at the Waterton facility. A candidate typically has: Bachelors degree from an accredited college in a related discipline, or equivalent experience/combined education, with 5 years of professional experience; or 3 years of professional experience with a related Masters degree. Considered career, or journey, level. The selected individual will join the Dragonfly mechanical team and support the technical develop and execution of the aeroshell through formulation, detailed design, fabrication, test, and delivery. In this dynamic role, you will:
  • Work closely with the Dragonfly Cruise Stage and Aeroshell Leads, program subsystem engineers, and Production in the development and execution of the aeroshell build
  • Design composite layups, mechanical hardware, and integrated composite structure assemblies
  • Coordinate engineering design packages with program stress, systems engineering, PMP, checking, manufacturing, product assurance, and configuration and data management
  • Review, check, and release engineering design packages
  • Work closely with LM engineering and Production centers to plan and execute the fabrication and test of the Dragonfly Aeroshell

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college in a related discipline, or equivalent experience/combined education
  • Experience designing spacecraft, aerospace, and/or mechanical components
  • Experience with model-based engineering techniques and tools
  • Experience with engineering (drawing/annotated model) development and release
Desired Skills:
  • Experience designing, fabricating, and testing composite structures
  • Have prior experience working with reentry missions and aeroshells
  • Experience with Creo CAD software
  • Experience with FiberSim software
  • Material Review Board (MRB) certification/experience
  • Strong communication skills, and experience presenting to peers, leadership, and/or customers

Ability to Work Remotely: Onsite Full-time: The work associated with this position will be performed onsite at a designated Lockheed Martin facility. Work Schedules: Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules that provide additional flexibility to our employees. Schedules range from standard 40 hours over a five day work week while others may be condensed. These condensed schedules provide employees with additional time away from the office and are in addition to our Paid Time off benefits. Schedule for this Position: 4x10 hour day, 3 days off per week Pay Rate: The annual base salary range for this position in California and New York (excluding most major metropolitan areas), Colorado, or Washington is $82,200 - $157,500. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. Lockheed Martin considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/ training, key skills as well as market and business considerations when extending an offer. Represented full time employees accrue 6.67 hours of PTO per month; accrue up to 52 hours of sick leave annually; receive at least 96 hours for holidays.
