This role is for an Operating Room Technician responsible for assisting in surgical procedures within a Level I trauma center and teaching hospital environment. The OR Tech will handle a daily census of 50-60 cases, working within a team to provide support across a variety of surgical specialties. The position requires on-call availability and the ability to float within the scope of practice to meet facility needs.

Responsibilities:
- Assist surgeons and nurses during surgical procedures.
- Prepare operating rooms with necessary equipment and supplies.
- Maintain a sterile environment in the operating room.
- Handle surgical instruments and equipment.
- Ensure proper specimen handling and labeling.
- Monitor and maintain equipment, including drills and electrosurgical units.
- Adhere to aseptic techniques, isolation precautions, and radiation safety protocols.
- Manage emergency situations, including fire safety.
- Document patient care and related duties.
- Assist with patient transport and preparation for diagnostic tests.
- Support the team by answering phones and coordinating equipment needs.
Required Skills & Certifications:
- Minimum 3 years of experience as an OR Tech.
- BLS certification.
- Experience in General OR, Teaching Hospital, and Trauma settings.
- Proficiency in Direct Laryngoscopy, Radial neck dissection, Tonsillectomy/adenoidectomy, Tracheostomy.
- Proficiency in Colonoscopy, EGD, Peg tube placement/exchange.
- Proficiency in Appendectomy, Cholecystectomy, Colon resection - Open/LAP, Hernia repair inguinal/umbilical, Laparoscopic assisted procedures, Mastectomy, Thyroidectomy partial/total.
- Proficiency in Abdominal hysterectomy, Anterior/Posterior repair, Bilateral tubal ligation, Dilation & Curettage, Laparoscopic assisted gynecological procedures, Vaginal Hysterectomy.
- Proficiency in Craniotomy, Laminectomy/discectomy, Lumbar fusion.
- Proficiency in Repair of fractured jaws, mandibular and zygomatic.
- Proficiency in Arthroscopy, Arthrotomy, Carpal tunnel release, Closed/Open reduction of fractures, Laminectomy/discectomy.
- Proficiency in Free Flap - Microvascular.
- Proficiency in Amputations, Gunshot/stab wounds, MVA (multiple injuries).
- Proficiency in Cystoscopy, Laparoscopic assisted cases, Nephrectomy, Ureteroscopy.
- Proficiency in Aseptic Technique, Isolation Precautions, Radiation Safety, Sharps Safety, Specimen Handling/Labeling, Universal Protocol (Time out) Procedure.
- Proficiency in Drills (multiple types), Electrosurgical units, Fiber optic light sources/cords.
Preferred Skills & Certifications:
- CST (Certified Surgical Technologist) certification.
- Teaching Hospital Experience.
Special Considerations:
- On-call required as needed.
- Must be in IL 3 business days prior to compliance HDD in order to meet fingerprinting requirements.
- Will float within scope of practice to meet facility needs.
- Weekends are once a month with a total of 16 hours of obligation.
Scheduling:
- Four 10-hour shifts (06:45-17:15).
- Schedule requests can be discussed with the manager.
- Weekend shifts required once a month.
