About the Company We are a commercial general contractor with nearly three decades of operational excellence, specializing in ground-up and tenant improvement projects across Texas. Our organization has built a reputation for safety, quality, and long-term client relationships. Privately held and family-oriented, we are seeking an experienced Controller to lead our financial operations and transition the current Controller into retirement.
Position Summary The Controller will be responsible for all financial aspects of the company. This hands-on role requires deep construction accounting knowledge and offers visibility across all departments. The ideal candidate brings leadership experience, operational insight, and the initiative to drive strategic improvements in a high-trust, fast-paced setting.
Key Responsibilities - Month End Close Process: Responsible for running an accurate and timely close, including participation in project review meetings, month end journal preparation/ review, account reconciliations, and reporting.
- Project Financial Management: Oversee project-based accounting (POC) including accurate job costing, participation in monthly project review meetings, analyzing project profitability, and providing insights for improvement.
- Oversee all general ledger, accounts payable, billing and collections, and payroll activities, ensuring accurate and timely processing of transactions and compliance with external & internal requirements.
- Oversee billing (AIA) and collection processes, lien waivers, and retainage tracking.
- HR & Payroll: Initiate bi-weekly payroll runs through PEO. Facilitate new employee onboarding and perform duties associated with any terminations.
- Cash Flow Management: Responsible for monitoring cash flow to ensure adequate liquidity for operations and growth
- Risk Management: Oversee insurance programs and surety relationships, ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations, and ensure compliance with client & subcontractor contractual obligations.
- Technology & Systems: Evaluate financial systems and technologies to improve efficiency and reporting capabilities.
Qualifications - Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA preferred.
- Expertise in construction accounting, AIA billing, and lien documentation.
- Hands-on experience managing month-end close processes.
- Process improvement mindset with strong communication skills and executive presence.
- Experience with QuickBooks Enterprise and Procore preferred.
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
