Job Description

Title: Safety Coordinator/Residential Aide
Salary:   $21.98 to $24.73( approximately $40,000 to $45,000 annually)
Reports to: Program Director, Community Navigation
Status: Full Time; Regular Non-Exempt
Location: Bronx, NY 10451
Days/Hours: Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm, Evenings as needed

 

Position Summary

Under the direction of the Program Director, the Safety Coordinator/Residential Aide is responsible for implementing safety protocols, assisting with safety planning for participants, residents, staff and guests, and incorporating meditation practices into the program. This role involves frequent and direct contact with participants, developing safety plans, and practicing violence interruption. The candidate must have experience with violence interruption and a deep understanding of trauma-informed approaches.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Implement and monitor safety protocols across the Atlas HOPE Program.
  • Assist in developing and executing participant safety plans, focusing on reducing the risk of violence and harm.
  • Practice and teach meditation techniques to participants and staff to promote mental well-being and stress reduction.
  • Serve as a liaison between participants and external safety-related resources, ensuring coordinated care.
  • Promote a trauma-informed approach, understanding and addressing the unique needs and histories of participants.
  • Provide training and mentoring to staff on safety protocols, violence interruption techniques, and meditation practices.
  • Prepare and submit accurate and timely reports, ensuring all safety-related incidents are documented and addressed appropriately.
  • Attend regular team meetings and maintain open communication lines within the team and the broader community.
  • Coordinate support sessions aimed at developing conflict resolution skills and positive behavior.
  • Assist and monitor all residents and guests entering and leaving the building.
  • Regularly patrol resident floors, administrative offices; and ensures a secure and safe building.
  • Intervene in crisis situations and provide appropriate support when necessary; administers first-aid as needed.
  • Monitor security cameras.
  • Conducts regular safety & wellness checks on residents; takes toxicology screenings of clients.
  • Assist with compliance monitoring activities by monitoring curfew compliance and adherence to program regulations. Document the log and inform the Director of any problems or concerns.

Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred, preferably in public health, human services, criminal justice, sociology, or a related field.
  • A minimum of two years of relevant work experience, preferably in a nonprofit social service setting.
  • Certified in CPR and First Aide a plus. Will be required to obtain CPR and First Aide Certification after employment; Certification in safety and basic health training (i.e. Mental Health First Aid, First Aid and CPR) is a main requirement and can be completed within the first 90 days.
  • Experience with violence interruption and a deep understanding of trauma-informed care.
  • Experience working in an institutional setting and/or providing security services.
  • De-escalation training preferred.
  • Skilled communicator able to liaise interdepartmentally and with community partners and stakeholders.
  • Excellent judgment and conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Excel.
  • Valid Driver’s License preferred, not required.
  • Ability to work independently and on a team.
  • Experience working with the community in the South Bronx is a plus.
  • Experience and/or desire to work with a culturally diverse population.
  • Relevant personal experience is a plus.
  • Bilingual preferred.

Travel Requirements

Occasional travel to Long Island City office for meetings and trainings.
